DesMAN Project

My idea was inspired from Ms. Blackwood, my English teacher, calling her freshman class "her minions". At first, I was having some difficulty with inputing the equations, but after searching around on Desmos, I found some tutorials to help me. After that, I had a lot of fun playing around with the lines and circles to make the head of the minion. It was definitely frustrating at times, but overall I had a great experience with Desmos and learning how to apply what I'm doing in class to my Desman.

First, we went around the school building and our homes to find circles and measure the distance around and across. Then we divided the distance around from across and found that they were all close to pie, and with the average of all the answers which was 3.19. After, we went and put the information into a demos graph. Something I found difficult at first was figuring out how to put the 2 numbers, x and y, into the chart. After I figured it out though, it was easy. A surprising part of this project was the fact that all the answers were so close to pie. I knew the it was a project dealing with circles, but I wasn't expecting it. Finally, the most interesting part of this exercise was going around the school with my group and finding circular objects- you'd be surprised with how few there actually was! Overall, I was a very fun and interactive project that I thoroughly enjoyed. Below are the pictures of my groups graph, the class' graph, and a picture of my friend and I measuring a table:)

1) I learned how to use the pythagorean theorem to figure out the hypotenuse of each triangle.
2) The most fun part was decorating the spiral because it really required you to think creatively.
3) The most complicated part of making this pythagorean spiral was probably getting every angel perfectly so that it looked right. My triangle is still not completely correct, but once you got the hang of it, making it got easier.
